Successful achievement of energy efficiency target

Since 2010, IREKS has consistently focussed on energy-saving targets and the planning and evaluation of efficiency measures. For a period of 15 years (2010 - 2024), we defined the goal of implementing optimisations amounting to 15% of total energy consumption in relation to a base year with average production capacity utilisation.

The “15 % in 15 years” target was even exceeded in the reporting period, meaning that an efficiency increase of 17.2 % was achieved by the end of 2024. We have implemented 204 measures since 2010. Compared to 2009, IREKS saves 28.1 million kWh or 6,700 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year. This reduction corresponds to the annual consumption of 1,700 households.

The savings made in the last three years are largely the result of process optimisation and extensive adjustments in the area of control and feedback control systems, which involved significant investments. Overall, the energy savings achieved reflect the success of a holistic strategy that includes both technical and organisational measures and is being continuously advanced.

Cumulative efficiency measures – share of total energy consumption

In view of the fact that the energy-saving target set to date has not only been achieved, but exceeded, we are optimistic about the next target: “20 % in 20 years”. Read more about this in our Quality and Sustainability Feed.

Energy savings as a result of targeted optimisation strategies

Our 11-strong energy management team plays a coordinating and supporting role in the company’s environmental and energy responsibility system. The aim is to systematically record and evaluate the energy-relevant processes in the company and to manage them with a view to continuous improvement. The relevance of these tasks is directly reflected in the savings achieved and the increase in our energy efficiency.
