Neil Woods won Baking Industry Award 2021

On 21 October, former IREKS employee Neil Woods won the Baking Industry Award 2021 in the category “outstanding contribution and commitment to the UK baking industry”. The ceremony took place at the Royal Lancaster in London.

Aged 15, Neil started as an apprentice in the Associated British Foods Group. Today, he has been in the baking industry for nearly 60 years. He comments on receiving his award as well as his career below:

"After many years of involvement with the British Baker, organiser of the event, I was truly honoured when I was advised that I had been nominated for the award. To actually receive it at the gala dinner was an unbelievable moment in my life! The amount of colleagues and past business associates that have contacted me to congratulate was huge; saying I was astounded and humbled is an understatement.

After having been associated with the company in 1985 (at that time IREKS-Arkady, now IREKS U.K. Ltd.), I remained for 33 years building a sales team of technical bakers. IREKS is recognised as a company of stature, product quality and trustworthiness in the UK. It was for me the legacy of my career within the industry.

The opportunity of working for IREKS as a family-owned company opened many doors and enabled me to be a member of various industry associations within the UK. I am honoured to be the President of the Bakery Students Association; in 2022, I will be the President of Craft Bakers Association. All this would have not been possible without the support of many people over the years.

I enjoyed every moment of my employment within the company and made a lot of friends within the IREKS team and colleagues internationally which I still appreciate to this day."

Warm congratulations from your former team and the whole IREKS family!
